There's this person on another website that just irks me. I agree with them on some of their opinions, but on the the opinions I disagree on they just seem to dang close-minded. Like "Uh-uh. You're wrong. I'm right." They often claim that there is proof, but very rarely every provide any links on it or share any sources. My biggest peeve with them is their stance on dog food. Well, no, not their stance on it particularly...but their attitude of..."it's not rational to think what you think. I'm right you're wrong, I have studies to prove it, you don't. Dogs can survive on it, so it must be exactly what they need. Guide dog schools know more about it than anyone else and are against it, so they must be right. OMG, you made a mathimatical error there! That proves that your 'facts' are all wrong!! Sheesh, you people aren't worth the argument."
The above are not direct quotes, but each of the things in the above paraphrasing is something I have seen her say at one time or another, some of them more than once.
I've ranted on this before. I know, I just need to let it go. But my annoyance was renewed tonight when she started preaching that it's bad for a dog to be sold after the age of 12 weeks. Not that I have any right to be peeved on this particular opinion on hers, as she plays fairly and rationally on this one as far I've seen.
Still, the idea kinda bothers me, because well...the argument makes no sense. I mean, dogs in the wild don't leave their mothers until they are around 9 months to a year. Doesn't this mean anything?
There is an argument that dogs go into a fear stage after the age of 12 weeks where they do not accept new things so well. Well, wouldn't that be alleviated if the breeder was very good about socializing the pups thoroughly before selling them off?
And, when I approached her about it to learn more on her side, all she said was that she'd read quotes from books by people like the Monks on New Skete. Just seems like if she actually had any honest-to-goodness knowledge on it that she'd give me something more in-depth, ya know?
Anyway, thanks for reading my rant, especially the last part which I really shouldn't complain about since it's just an honest difference in opinion.
